Not expecting, just hoping

A girl
wants to share
her beauty
if she can

but shyly,
trustfully,
and with
the right man.

- Shaista, 2011

Happy Valentine's Day my beloved readers!
And for all my sisters around the globe, from Congo to Kigali and Brooklyn to Bangladesh, may this little poem-prayer find you in a pocket of peace.

Oooh, I like this, very much.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you too.

Yes, and with a VERY special girl like you, it has to be a VERY special man, the measure of your father and your brother. May your prince find you, Shaista.

Sherry, Father and Brothers, plural :) I have two equally amazing brothers (can't bear to have one unacknowledged :))
Happy Valentine's Day to you too!

Shaista, you share such beauty here that I think you make all your readers flatter ourselves with the fanciful notion that we are "the right man". In Spanish, curiously, the same word is used for expect, hope and wait ... esperar. That has to mean something, I have always thought, though not been able to figure out exactly what. An innate optimism perhaps?

I am a woman, and I share Lorenzo's thought. :-)

This sweetness is a powerful lozenge that you offer. I don't know how you manage it, but there you go. The illustration does convey it tremendously! Where on earth did you find it (and does that matter; no). The girl watching the far-off boy, and she holds a labyrinth. So complex, a woman-girl! She wants to play, she wants to be played with, and she has so very, very much to offer a man-boy, if only he will find her.

Much love, Happy Valentine's Day.

Happy Valentine's Day to you, beautiful Shaista.

The one is making his way to you. It has always been thus, and will always be...until he is by your side.

ahhhh, I think, if I may edit your title, you might change it to read:

Not Hoping, EXPECTING!

This is how you let him know that he should hurry up.

Perhaps this same title would be good when talking to the consultant later this week. Expect to conquer, my lovely warrior.

Shaista, I love this little Nikki Giovanni poem in today's The Writer's Almanac, which reminded me of your wonderful comments at my fashion post at sync. You did me no end of good, you always do, the way you keep playing such beautiful music.

Art Sanctuary

by Nikki Giovanni

I would always choose to be the person running
rather than the mob chasing
I would prefer to be the person laughed at
rather than the teenagers laughing
I always admired the men and women who sat down
for their rights
And held in disdain the men and women who spat
on them
Everyone deserves Sanctuary a place to go where you are
safe
Art offers Sanctuary to everyone willing
to open their hearts as well as their eyes

I think the title of this post can apply to most things in life: it's a good mental attitude.

As for your hopes, well I hope that they become flesh (so to speak).

btw, the Cathleen Schine book about the Weissmans is VERY entertaining. It borrows from Sense and Sensibility, but in a nice way.
Sorry to be so delinquent in getting back to you, but winter gets me down . . . even though there are snowdrops (which ARE some consolation).
