THREE POEMS IN THE STYLE OF EMILY DICKINSON

My tacky heart
Beats too fast -
A Plaything
For my rib cage -

I could give it
To You, if You asked
But You
Never do -

***

Love refuses me Nothing.
Every nook
And cranny Fulfilled;

Love refuses me Nothing -
I have only to ask,
And it is Your Will -

That I Be Satisfied.

***

What more can I ask, Beloved?
What more can I say?
For You have heard
every Word -

and shown me
every Way -

The poets over at dverse suggested we write in the style of Emily Dickinson for today's poetry prompt. So I have… but I also feel the need to post a real Emily D poem, one of my favourites -

You cannot put a Fire out -
A Thing that can ignite
Can go, itself, without a Fan -
upon the slowest Night -

You cannot fold a Flood -
And put it in a Drawer -
Because the Winds would find it out -
And tell your Cedar Floor -

(poem 530, c. 1862)

Lovely poems that you posted--very much like Emily would write. And I really enjoyed the one of hers that you posted--I was not familiar with it. Thanks for sharing with us.

Good work here. For something that seems so easy, it is a deceptive style and you did a super write. The poem you posted is one of my favorites of hers.

You've managed well to capture some elements of the style of Emily Dickinson!

You do a wonderful Emily, my friend. I especially like "Love refuses me nothing - every nook and cranny fulfilled." Your blog banner photo is spectacular. I love seeing you up there!

Bravo! I especially loved,

Love refuses me Nothing.
Every nook
And cranny Fulfilled;

Love refuses me Nothing -
I have only to ask,
And it is Your Will -

That I Be Satisfied.

Victoria, thank you so much for your comment. And for the great compliment! I really enjoyed this task.

Thank you so much! It is, as you say, an incredibly deceptive style. So it was an excellent dverse challenge.

Thanks Mary - I think she was a very clever poet. Deceptively simple as Spencer mentioned.
