A Ball in Autumn

I have been doing a heady amount of reading over the past few weeks as you can imagine... but am taking a quick break from the serious stuff to join in the revelries over at Willow Manor, where the cyber Autumn Ball is in full swing, and I am extremely late indeed!

But it isn't just the reading and writing that has me late.. I just don't know what to wear!!! First I thought, a sari...
but I want to dance, and I am not sure I will be skillful enough in a sari, plus since I'm late I may as well make an entrance in colour!

Barefoot to maximise the moves to the blues and the straining sax and the velvet chords of the Beatles and Joni Mitchell, Billie Holiday and Madeleine Peyroux, as they harmonise through the Manor House...
There is only one man I want as arm candy....
because he'll read me poetry after, of course, and he can tell me all about Audrey Hepburn and I won't feel even a smidgeon green eyed...
In fact I'm tempted not to go to the ball at all... ;) but my arms are heavy laden with these birds of paradise, this cherry brandy (gifts for the hostess) and my feet are itching to dance...
So au revoir, mes amies, I shall return when fireflies are bustling away from the sunrise and my books call out to me again. Until then, watch me fly!

Didn't we bare-foot gals dance up a treat, avoiding the odd sparkling shards of glass from careless carrying-ons from inubriated guests.
Those butlers Willow had on hand were deft with the subtle quick sweep-ups though.
You looked beautiful!!

The color of your dress is perfection! It appears to be a light chartreuse and only the certain few can carry it off. You will make a beautiful entrance especially on the arm of dear Gregory. See you there!

Molly, you're welcome and yes, the meets and greets are the best part. Well, those and the Last Word cocktails ;)

Helen, Pam, Kathy, Yoli, thankyou for the compliments... as Cheryl perceptively pointed out, the dress is indeed light chartreuse...
Yoli, I can't believe you had permission to borrow That Necklace from Liz!!

Steven you are one cool customer. Lee Miller?? Get outta here! Can't wait to meet her.
I'm going to tell her all about how I met and talked to her son Anthony Penrose... meet you both by the pool in a bit...

Dear Shiasta: Definitely you're a class act dear! You outfit is absolutely gorgeous! And your date? Exactly whom I would have asked! Gregory Peck; dream date! So nice of you to remember Willow with the wonderful cherry brandy. I guess I will have to check out the Manor's wine cellar to see what I drank and replace it! So glam!

Your dress is so fresh and fun but your date is drop dead gorgeous! Glad my date inspired your dancing itch.

I'm so happy you pulled yourself from your reading and joined Willow and the rest of us. Your late entrance bowled us over, especially Leo, who was utterly enchanted with you and your grandpapa's story, and when I told him you are a writer too, he said, ohhhh, and I could see he wanted longer with you.

As for Gregory, I completely missed dancing with him, as I was pooped after just one dance with William Powell. I was hoping he'd come sit with us. I love him so.
